Save money on your next business tripThursday, December 6, 2012 10:18:32 AM
From eating out to corporate car rental costs, business trip expenses can add up quickly. Some companies will cover the costs, and others won't. Either way, there are changes you can make to your travel routines to save some dough.
Cut travel expenses
Use a car rental to save yourself money throughout the trip, Beach Carolina Magazine suggests. This will decrease cab fare expenses and you'll have a more flexible schedule. You could even take some time after working hours to explore the area. Another way to cut travel expenses is to fly into a neighboring airport instead of the one in the city you're doing business. This won't always save you money, but check all regional airports to ensure you're getting the best ticket prices.
Spend less on dinner
Unless you have to entertain a client, you could get away with eating most of your meals in your hotel room. Once you pick up your rental car, go to a grocery store and purchase nonperishable items. Even if you don't have a kitchen in your hotel room, most hotels offer a microwave for guest use. If eating in doesn't sound appealing, try only ordering appetizers at dinner, which are less expensive than entrees, or getting restaurant deals on that city's Groupon or Living Social page.
