Cruising Miami, Convertible Top Down
No matter what the season, Miami is always hot, hot, hot! And while driving through the city in a mini-van with your family in tow is great, nothing beats cruising around town in a convertible – breeze in your hair and sun at your back.
After you toss your bags in the back (or stow them safely in your hotel room), hit the highway and head to Bayshore Beach for tacos at Kayak Café. It’s not fancy by any stretch, but the food is good, the view is phenomenal and it’s always the perfect place to test the pulse of the city.
After that, make time for cruising South Beach. From the shops to the restaurants – to the Art Deco architecture, this city is teeming with must-see spots made famous for their laid-back glamour and easy-going attitude. Of course, the soft sand beaches are why a lot of people come to South Beach, and with a convertible rental car at your beck and call, you can drive up and down the coast to experience them all.
Two popular spots that make for great top-down drives include:
The Keys: Take US1 toward the Keys and just drive! Along the way you’ll catch glimpses of Key Largo and the always breathtaking John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Beyond the Marathon city limits, you’ll find the Seven-Mile Bridge, which offers fantastic views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. If time is on your side, cross the bridge and keep going until you hit Key West. It’s the most southern point in the continental U.S. – and it’s absolutely beautiful.
The trip is about 150 miles but it’s well worth the drive… and in a convertible, it’s absolutely perfect.
Tamami Trail: Take US41 up through the Florida Everglades and spend the day taking in the sights and sounds of this totally unique eco-system.
Top-down or not… these are spectacularly scenic drives that make for a great romantic weekend or a fun-filled family trip. So even if you can’t squeeze your whole clan into a convertible rental car, pack them into a great mini-van and hit the road!
