Apple products, eco-mindedness influence business travelers' rental car choices

Business travelers generally have more important things to worry about than the color of their business travel car rental, but before heading out on your next business trip, you may want to reconsider the importance of your rental car's aesthetics.

According to a recent post on Yahoo's Motoramic blog, ideals like environmentalism, nostalgia and a love for Apple products influence renters' car color selections. According to the post, white has surpassed silver as the most popular car color in America. Prior to white's topping of the list, silver had held the No. 1 place for nearly ten years.

Why the change? According to industry insiders, white has ascended to the throne thanks to the popularity of Apple products.

"Prior to Apple, white was associated with things like refrigerators or the tiles in your bathroom. Apple made white valuable," BMW Designworks' lead designer Sandy McGill told Motormatic.

Apple isn't the only piece of the color-changing puzzle. Brown - once popular in the 1970's - had fallen to the wayside in terms of car color fashion trends until recently. But a renewed sense of nostalgia and a eco-mindedness has inspired many a consumer to spring for earth tones like brown and sky blue.
