1. RISD Museum
Providence is home to the Rhode Island School of Design, one of the nation's premier art colleges. It features a museum where you can take in beautiful pieces both old and new. It opened in 1877, and is among the nation's largest art museums. Its ever-changing exhibitions feature everything from European works dating back hundreds of years to modern pieces just created by local artists. No matter what type of design interests you, you will be engaged for hours traveling the halls of this beautiful institution.
2. The Providence Art Club
In 1880, this club was founded by local artists and art collectors to promote culture in the city. Historically, it was used as a meeting place for creative people looking to discuss paintings, sculptures, literature and news of the day. Currently, it offers not only stunning galleries and special exhibitions, but a variety of art classes. To make it even better, all of the galleries are open to the public at no charge.
