Avoid lost luggage when traveling for work

Thursday, August 8, 2013 2:42:00 PM

Having lost luggage is the worst way to start a business trip. Upon arrival, you have a lot to worry about - from picking up your corporate car rental to find your way to the hotel. We have the top tips that may help to prevent your luggage from getting lost:

  • Take a direct flight
  • Pack as little as possible and only bring a carry-on if you can
  • Purchase a set of luggage that will stand up - but remain professional
  • Attach a name tag or laminated business card to any luggage that is checked
  • Check the airport code on your luggage tag
  • Watch the carousel for your luggage, if you think someone else picked it up by mistake, say something
  • Look inside the suitcase before leaving the airport to ensure you have the correct bag

If you are on a long business trip, it's likely that you won't be able to get away with just taking a carry-on. In this case, pack everything you'll need for the next 24-hour period in the smaller bag you'll be taking on the plane with you. That way, in the event your suitcase doesn't show up on the carousel, you have some time to spare until the airline locates it.
