You're on a business trip and the weatherman predicts several inches of snow. Do you know how to properly clean your rental car of the fluffy white stuff before driving it? Follow these tips and you'll be on your way in no time:
- Instead of waiting all night to dust off your business travel car rental do it several times. Clear your vehicle of any precipitation before you go to bed and again when you happen to get up in the middle of the night. This way, you will have less to remove in the morning when you are in a hurry to get to your conference, and it will be easier than if you had waited.
- Be gentle with the wipers. If you know a storm is coming lift them so that they are suspended and not touching the windshield. This will allow easy access for your scraper on the windshield and prevent the wipers from freezing in place. If they have already frozen, scrape around and let them sit until later when the sun has warmed them up. Yanking them off the windshield may damage the blades or the wiper motor.
- Brush snow off the entire vehicle before driving it. That includes the top, hood, back windshield, front windshield, mirrors, side windows and lights. Some states have fines for snow that falls off an improperly cleaned car and onto the roadway.
