Saving money during summer business travel

Summer can be a truly unpleasant time to travel for work thanks to crowds of tourists and excessively hot weather at many destinations around the country. You can always turn up the air conditioning in your corporate car rental and learn to tune out the bustle, but one thing you can't control is that it's also one of the most expensive time of years to travel. This is thanks to hotels, restaurants and other tourism businesses upping their rates. Try these suggestions for saving some money during summer:

Choose extra hotel amenities

It may cost a little extra up front, but opting for additional amenities can save you money at the end of the trip. For example, choose a hotel that has a laundry room so you don't have to turn to pricey dry cleaners. Another great option is to select a room that has a kitchenette so that you can cook your meals at the hotel rather than going out to eat every night.

Avoid cabs

It may only be about $10 from your meeting back to the hotel, but a few taxi rides over the course of your business trip can really add up. Particularly during the high tourism season, cab rates can be very expensive. Instead, do a little research before your trip and find a discount car rental that suits your needs without breaking the your budget.
