Social media is changing business travel

Social media isn't just changing lives, it's changing business travel too. From finding the best car rental companies to searching for deals on airfare, travel is being transformed through the digital word-of-mouth effect.

According to Travel + Leisure, many people still rely on tips from friends and colleagues when searching for travel advice, but they are now asking for and receiving this information via the web. Unique applications like Tripbirds will even help road warriors find people within their social networks who have been to places that they plan to travel, and directs their questions to those individuals.

Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram also allow business travelers to see who has been to certain cities and hotels, and may even be able to find out where they are staying and when.

But social media isn't only limited to computers. For those who have smartphones, travel apps are also contributing to the transformation of business travel. In fact, many road warriors increasingly rely on car rental apps to confirm their reservations on-the-go.

Apps like TripIt are also making it easier for business travelers to get organized. TripIt helps road warriors book their travel plans and forward their itineraries so everyone is on the same page.
