Tips for planning a business trip

Thursday, March 14, 2013 9:33:44 AM

If you are an entrepreneur or small business owner, it can be difficult to even know where to begin the process of planning a business trip. You may think you know the ins and outs of purchasing a plane ticket or securing an airport car rental, but business travel requires a different type of planning than personal trips. To successfully plan your first business trip, follow these tips:

1. Start early
For a greater variety of travel options, begin planning your business trip as far in advance as possible. Confirm the dates and location with the clients you will be visiting, and plan to arrive at least a few hours early to get acclimated.

2. Make an itinerary
As you plan your trip, write down an itinerary that includes specific information about where your destination is, how you will be getting there and where you will be staying. Include phone numbers and addresses, and share this information with your colleagues. Bring your itinerary with you as you travel.

3. Write a checklist
Before leaving on your business trip, make a checklist of everything your will need, from professional clothing to a laptop computer. Save yourself time and stress during your trip by only packing the essentials.
