Tips for success during your first business trip

While going on your first business trip can be exciting - there's nothing quite like getting in a corporate car rental - it can also be a bit intimidating. It's a learning experience, and if you're going to navigate your first business trip with finesse, you'll need a bit of advice:

Do your homework
Before you leave, ask for a full schedule of meetings and events, along with a list of the names and titles of colleagues you are traveling with and clients you may be meeting. You should also make sure you are fully informed about what will be discussed during the trip so you can complete the relevant research.

Verify the details
Before you depart, double-check all the details of your business trip, including hotel reservations, meeting times and plane tickets. It's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, and you shouldn't assume someone else will remember to verify everything.

Keep it professional
It can be easy to slip into vacation mode when you are in another state, but business travel is exactly that: business. Do not abuse your company's expense account at the hotel bar. Conduct yourself as you would at the office.
