Savor the Windy City in your Chicago rental car
As the country's third biggest city, Chicago is a global hub for finance, transportation and industry. But you're not here to work, so start your trip in Millennium Park. Drive your Illinois car rental about an hour north to Gurnee, a village practically made for wholesome entertainment. The location is home to Six Flags Great America, which features more than a dozen exhilarating roller coasters and a massive waterpark with slides galore. For even more waterpark madness, visit the KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort, which will make you feel like you're in a tropical paradise. Gurnee Mills is the place to go for shopping. Next stop: Springfield
Illinois' capital, Springfield, is the place to go to learn about the state's intriguing history. Visit Abraham Lincoln's home and the store he worked at as a young man before becoming president. Take a family tour of the Old State Capitol, then get in your Illinois rental car and hop between the city's many museums, like the Illinois State Museum or the Trutter Museum.
