Sun Life Stadium
Besides alligators, snakes and sunshine, Florida is also home to the National Football League's Miami Dolphins. Originally named the Joe Robbie Stadium, this space held its first game in 1987 when the Bears beat the Dolphins 10-3 in a preseason game. Since then, soccer, baseball and music events have occurred here. Headliners have included: Rod Stewart, Hall and Oates and Chicago in a 1988 tour. More recently, Justin Timberlake and Jay Z ended their Legends of Summer Tour here in 2013. Whether it's to see a concert or a game, you're sure to have a good view and an enthusiastic crowd around you at this Miami stadium.
Established in 2009 by Tony Goldman, this warehouse district area houses graffiti art on large and small scales, covering the walls of the warehouses and filling the 15 gates of a nearby park-like area called Wynwood Doors. With artists from Shepard Fairey to Futura to The Date Farmer, this project encompasses artists from many countries, including the U.S., Japan, England, Germany and France. Some artists use stencils and wheat paste, others spray paint and brushes. The art depicts colorful, sometimes 3-D scenes and images of people and places both real and imagined. Stop by to see these incredible works of art in person.
The Olympia Theater at Gusman Center
This member of the National Register of Historic Places opened in 1926 as a place for silent movies. The ceiling, a shimmering starry night sky, was the perfect setting for the Vaudeville acts that played here for over 40 years. Musical acts that graced the stage included Elvis Presley, Luciano Pavarotti, Etta James and B.B. King. More recently, MTV has hosted events here. Today, you can see theater productions, the Miami Film Festival, dance and musical acts and more on this incredible stage. The building is currently being restored to resemble the original, classic feel. Visit the theater for a beautiful glimpse into the city's past.
